Q: What was your first job out of college, and how did you land that position?
My first job in the industry was with Ralph Lauren. I started in Long Island and grew my passion for fashion and craftsmanship at the company through sales and merchandising.
Q: When did you first realized that you wanted to pursue a career as a hat designer?
After being introduced to one of the oldest hat shops in NYC and devoting 6 years there I realized this would be my chair for the rest of my life. The craft and history are what keep me motivated.

Q: Tell us how and where you started B.M. Franklin and what brought you to Atlanta?
I started B.M. Franklin in 2014 out my lower Eastside Apartment in NYC and months later moved into a small studio in Tribeca. The talks of opening my first retail store here in Atlanta started in early 2019 but we weren’t quite ready. Then right before the pandemic the opportunity was presented again and we thankfully agreed. Atlanta has been amazing and has allowed us to realize our dreams. There is so much opportunity and appreciation for what we do here in Atlanta.

Q: How did you meet Good Tidings & what made you decide to join forces together?
I met Silvia in Mid- February she came into the store with a mutual collaborator and friend of ours, Marissa of Tavola Rosa. I’d followed and was keen on Good Tidings before we met, once the introduction was made it was obvious that we’d be working together. Silvia’s eye and appreciation of fashion and all things beautiful was beguiling to me and our team. The rest is history, or at least the beginning of.

Q: What's your method when designing hats. Did you experience any challenges during the design process when you have another creative force designing a collection. If so, what were they & how did you resolve?
I design based on feel and if it’s for a client it’s based on vibe. We have a knack for finding meaningful details that express the character and individuality of a person. We also pride ourselves on collaborating with others because our craftsmanship stands alone. Details are expressive and with a vibe that Good Tidings provides, it makes the process seamless.

Q: Do you experience getting stuck and not creative at times, if so, how do you get back into the groove?
I sometimes get stuck and like most creatives it comes when we have to switch our brains to admin/business or analog. I get back to a creative zone by meditating and getting out into nature. It helps to keep the bigger picture in perspective. Music also helps…a lot.

Q: Three things we should absolutely know about you?
I’m a huge Knicks fan…a huge NEW YORK sports fan! I love hats, the culture, the process, and the history. It’s always important to do things right and not take short cuts. In a world where most things are mass produced or important to keep appreciating those who take time to make and sell certain products.
