Q: Who are your ideal clients? My ideal clients are people that are ready to take their image/brand to the next level. My clients are not just using these pictures for social media but for their personal branding as well. The client needs to understand the investment they are making for themselves and their business. They need to be open minded and willing to trust the process. I will do most of the heavy lifting they just need to come prepared and ready to shoot.

Q: What’s been the most memorable client that your company has served/partnered/collaborated with? The most memorable client I worked with was Marcus Barney aka Him500. This experience was memorable to me because it was when he decided to surprise his twin nieces for their 18th birthday. He took them to Sugar Factory and bought them with two brand new cars. It was an impactful experience because I got to really see the love and support, they had for one another. Moments like this I really enjoy because it shows the impact my work has on others.

Q: What’s the most important business lesson you’ve learned? The most important business lesson is the importance of networking. I have met so many of my clients through networking that I know my business would not be where it is today without those connections. I learned that I can try to advertise and sell my business all day but without connections my business would stay stagnant and not grow.

One of my biggest secrets to being successful in this industry is to niche down. As people begin to trust you with that particular style of service you increase your trust factor which in turn helps you increase demand. As a result, in the uptick in demand you can then increase your pricing at that point. Trust is very important when it comes to creating retention with clients. Q: What's been a game changer for you and your business? The biggest game changer for me that has impacted my business is creating a full iPad editing workflow. I am able to import, edit and send my clients their images 3x faster than if I was on a computer. This allowed me to be on the go, always having my work with me. This has also increased the total number of bookings I can do within a month, thus increasing sales. All in all, it’s a pretty unique workflow, and has led to great results.

Q: How did the idea for your business come about? EWP Photography actually came from an unusual experience. Around the age of 22, I started getting into modeling. Nothing big or crazy but there were a few agencies that I've got accepted into. They set me up to do my very first photo shoot with one of their associate photographers. It ended up being a horrible experience. I was one of several people that was getting pushed through like an assembly line. I had no time to get warmed up or comfortable with the photographer. There were several other issues to say the least, but in the end, I didn't really like my photos. I told myself that I could do a better job than this. Not too long after that I got my own camera. I started taking photos and feel in love with the craft itself. After playing around with the camera and models, I saw that I actually had a talent for photography. I decided to then take it seriously and pursue a career in photography.

Q: How many hours a day do you work on average? Being an entrepreneur makes me have more of a 24/7 work week lifestyle. The number of hours I work on an average workday can vary day to day. There is a lot of ambiguity and I have to always be flexible and ready to go. Some bookings can pop up at the last minute, while some may be scheduled ahead of time. Work can also cause me to travel and even work some holidays. I have to maintain great time management skills in order to never fall behind with my daily tasks and duties.
Q: What motivates you? Seeing my photos in different outlets motivates me. I like to continuously improve on my craft and seeing my work on websites, ads, magazines etc. gets me excited about the work I do. I love bringing my talents to other organizations and helping clients achieve their goals.

Q: How do you build a successful customer base? I built a successful customer base through excellent customer service, fair pricing, and excellent value. Most of my customers are returning clients that I have built strong relationships with throughout the years.
Q: How do you market your business, and which tactics have been most successful? The main ways I market EWP Photography is through word of mouth, connections, and social media. I believe every client can lead to more clients if you do your job exceptionally. With photography becoming less popular on social media, I know the work I do has to stand out.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur? My favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur is being able to travel. Traveling is something that I enjoy and helps me connect with new clients. It's super important as a creator to go outside of my element. Seeing new cultures and different landscapes helps me elevate and enhance my creativity. Many people limit themselves when they can only market in the area they live in. I have had several clients fly me to their location to shoot pictures for their businesses and families.
Q: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur? I will say that 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur would be problem solving, sales and the ability to learn. To be a great entrepreneur you need to be able to problem solve on the go at all times. For example, sometimes during an outdoor photo shoot the lightening may not be ideal. Having the necessary equipment with you at all times to be prepared for any situation can help you alleviate this issue. The next skill needed to be a successful entrepreneur is sales. Being able to market yourself is key. Lastly, you need to be able to add new skills to your repertoire to stay ahead of the game.
