What inspired you to start your own business? My dad, Glenn Walker (President), started this business and continues to oversee the company. He wanted to be his own boss and build a company that not only puts clients first, but also to create beautiful, functional outdoor spaces. Glenn loves to relax and grill in his backyard, and he wanted to help other homeowners love their homes even more by creating one-of-a-kind outdoor spaces, tailored to each homeowner’s wants. I joined the business to gain valuable entrepreneurial skills from my dad and to also be a part of the family business.

Given the economic condition, health crisis, and the mandatory temporary closing of thousands of businesses, how are you coping & how have you shifted to help service your customers? As we continue to monitor coronavirus (COVID-19) and take guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), our primary objective during this uncertain time is to make sure we are doing everything in our power to ensure the safety of our employees and clients. We are equipping all of our employees with sanitizing supplies and face masks. All residential projects are now contactless and any communication with homeowners are made via phone and/or email. While we are on job sites, we require our employees to practice social distancing. We are also reducing non-essential travel during this time.

As a business owner and faced with a sudden calamity, what new revelations did you discover and will likely implement to catastrophic proof your business? I think we were already pretty prepared for something like this. We have been very fortunate, especially since we have been deemed essential workers, as we have not felt a lot of the negative impacts due to COVID-19.

When the dust settles what will be the first thing that you'll do and why? Glenn will probably go fishing in the Florida Keys! But on a serious note, once everything calms down, we will look to continue to hire more employees. We understand a lot of people lost their jobs during this time, and once the dust settles, we will definitely need more help as we get back to normal.
