What inspired you to start your own business? My family has been involved in real estate development and construction since 1920.  There is little more satisfying than seeing a transformative project completed that will impact people for many years to come.

Who are your ideal clients?  In this development, we are working with small businesses that desire to own their office rather than being caught up in the endless cycle of renting.  To make this project come alive, we are also looking for chef driven restaurants that will create the draw that will ultimately lead to a walkable downtown.  And lastly, we are selling to move down buyers who are looking to stay in the local area, but move from a subdivision, with all its maintenance requirements, to a single level flat.  The draw is they can walk to the office they purchase or to the myriad of restaurants or food hall options rather than drive.

Given the economic conditions, health crisis, and the mandatory temporary closing of thousands of businesses, how are you coping with the pandemic. How are you balancing home and work?  Most of our business can be transacted from home using Zoom, but our construction crews are considered essential businesses, so we have continued construction under the guidelines given by federal and state officials.

How have you shifted to help service your customers?  The timeline to move into the project we are building should be beyond our current crisis, but we are more sensitive to their financial situation, and have allowed our timelines to shift without penalty.

Are you offering new products or new service offerings as the result of the shift? If so, what are they and what solutions do they offer?  Our product will not likely change as a result.  We are focused on smaller businesses that are locally based.  We feel that even though many have found working from home interesting that they are mostly ready to spend time in an office environment.  And our restaurants will mostly be new locations so they will open in an environment that will need to meet some of the pent up demand to go out after weeks eating take out or cooking at home.

As a business owner and faced with a sudden calamity, what new revelations did you discover and will likely implement to catastrophic proof your business?  Key to any business is to remain as efficient as possible with respect to employees and expenses, but most critical is our financial partners who are very strong.  During the last recession, we were tied to public banks driven by factors outside of our specific deal.  With strong private lenders, we feel we can make good business decisions within the context of our specific project.

When the dust settles, what will be the first thing that you'll do and why?  Out to the pub for a beer and then to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants.  What I am really waiting for is the restart of the English Premier League so I can go to Fado’s in Buckhead to watch a match.  YNWA!
