What advice would you like to give yourself as you begin the New Year? Remember that self-care is important. The pandemic has hit us all pretty hard. For those of us in healthcare, we have seen burnout rates higher than ever and many leaving the profession altogether.

Caregivers often neglect themselves, as they strive to help others. I want to remember to make my own health a priority, reduce stress and exercise more. Slow down. It took the world shutting down for many to enjoy some of the people and things they work so hard for. In 2022, I will not over schedule my life and will spend more time focused on my home and nurturing the relationships around me.

What would you like to be your biggest triumph this coming year? I hope to complete the first draft of the book I have been working on and to begin earning an income through my LLC. While I have been passionate about my work in healthcare, I also have a creative side that I want to tap into just a bit more through these projects.

What advice would you like to give yourself as you begin the New Year? Girl, give yourself grace in being present. You know what it looks like to be a go-getter and a hustler given your background of being first generation and turning adversity into triumph. You are right where you are supposed to be in this very moment. If you had the power to freeze time, you’ve accomplished in your lifetime what most individuals, given the odds you have faced, could never have dreamed of. Take life’s joys and challenges in stride, while learning how to laugh at yourself, not taking yourself too seriously. You’ve proven countless times you have the resilience and perseverance necessary to tackle life’s most unforeseen challenges. Nothing can and will break you. The survival mentality that got you to this point is no longer necessary. Embrace this new chapter of grace in 2022 and adapt to relishing in what it means to thrive and flourish. Embrace letting go of the things in your past that limit the gifts of your future and look to the world as one which has endless opportunities and possibilities that await you…because you deserve it!

What would you like to be your biggest triumph this coming year? I’ve held several legal roles in the technology space for almost 10 years now and have seen its transition from being difficult and challenging for non-engineers to now becoming a sexy career goal. I find it interesting that many now underestimate the rigors of the tech landscape. As a commercial legal counsel for a publicly traded, global software company, I have found my path to be exciting, challenging, fast-paced, and intense especially at end of each quarter. In such a high impact role, there has been times where I have lost perspective given the pressures of “doing well” and “being successful.” My recent success in closing one of the largest tech deals of my career left me yearning to truly take stock of my wins to understand my own self-worth and value. I have never celebrated my journey to get to where I am, given that we are taught that the corporate environment is unforgiving for women who cannot keep up.

My biggest triumph in the coming year is to remain consistent in striving for excellence in this space, but to truly embrace all the things that make me unique and special. What advice would you like to give yourself as you begin the New Year? The best advice I would give to myself at the beginning of 2022 is to take it one day at a time. Most of the time as busy women we get caught up in the day-to-day movements of life, meeting after meeting, event after event, gathering after gathering. This coming year I want to spend more time focusing and prioritizing, self-love, and self-growth.

At the beginning of 2020, I begin working on my passion project a planner/workbook for high school students applying for college that outline the college admission process. After a decade of working in higher education, I changed careers and begin working in government contracting but never lost sight of my passion, college access for all.

What advice would you like to give yourself as you begin the New Year? In the new year, my advice to myself is to be open to new opportunities and pursue new challenges and experiences. Once you have reached your goals, make new ones.
My career and life goal has always been to have balance. That is all that I aim for, in every facet of life. I have finally accomplished that for the most part but I am ready to pursue my next wave of goals. I refuse to allow my balance scales to keep me in fear of tipping them. Once I add more responsibilities, I will just have to add more self-care. Therefore, my advice to myself is to push through to what is next for me.
