Q: How did you start influencing and what brand was your favorite to collaborate with?
I don’t think me becoming an influencer was a conscious thing at all. I always loved fashion and being creative, so even before Instagram had fully blown up, or being an influencer was a thing, I loved sharing my outfits and creative photo setups. At some point or another I started branding myself as an influencer for business purposes and embraced the title because it entailed everything that I was already doing, but nothing has really changed between now and before when I was just sharing my love of things with others.
My favorite brands that I have collaborated with have always been the ones that gave me freedom to do whatever I wanted. I can honestly say I have never worked with a brand that I didn’t believe in 100% or wouldn’t recommend, even if I weren’t getting something in exchange. If I had to pick a top two, I would say Mapfuil and Mejuri. Both of these collaborations were ones that I sought out and emailed myself, in hopes that they would work with me.

Q: As glamorous as being an Instagram influencer looks, what are the biggest struggles you’ve found with this line of work?
The biggest struggles I have found when it comes to being an influencer is time management and being paid for campaigns. I don’t do this full time, so it’s hard to find the time to take photos, find someone to take it for me, and it turn out exactly how I envisioned it. To continue to grow my following, it’s important to post consistently, which I can’t do if I don’t have time to take photos.
The other biggest struggle is being paid my worth for a campaign. Some brands will want you to do multiple things like, create a blog post, take photos within strict guidelines, create a certain amount of stories, run ads, and the list goes on, for little to nothing.

Q: Do you enjoy working more with fashion/jewelry brands, health and beauty brands, or food brands?
I personally enjoy working with fashion / jewelry brands more. It just aligns more with my brand and what I normally post. I only share clothing / jewelry brands that I absolutely love and would wear in real life.
Q: Is there a lot of research involved when it comes to finding a location to shoot at?
When it comes to picture taking, scouting the perfect location is the hardest thing to do. There is normally a lot of research that goes into it. The location has to match the outfit, but not be too much with it. I also don’t want to bore my followers with the same background so I have to make sure to change it up. For example, if I want to shoot against a white wall, I’ll make sure that it is a slightly different texture or shade of white. Researching a location is especially important if I’m traveling and have seen a cool location on someone else’s Instagram and it’s not tagged. One time my friend and I walked around Lincoln park for at least an hour and a half just to find a cool photo spot.

Q: With the pandemic have you found it more difficult to find brands to collaborate with? Are you working more or less?
I have found it a little more difficult to work with brands during the pandemic. I feel like previous to the pandemic more brands were reaching out to me, whereas once the pandemic hit, I was having to reach out to brands. I have done much less work with brands since the pandemic, which makes sense because a lot of brands just don’t have the budget right now to even offer payment in product.
Q: Besides your Instagram blog, do you have your own personal business? What is it that you sell?
I don’t have my own personal business, but I do have a full time job as a manager at Free People.

Q: Where do you find your inspiration?
I find most of my inspiration from social media. I love scrolling through Instagram and seeing creative photoshoot ideas or outfits I want to recreate. I feel like Instagram is my main source of inspiration out of all the social media sites, but recently I have found a lot of inspiration from Tik Tok! I also get inspired by places whenever I happen to travel somewhere new.

Q: Who are your top three favorite fashion bloggers and why?
I feel like my top three favorite fashion bloggers change based on my mood or type of style I’m loving the most at the time. As of right now I think it would be @delaneychilds, @butwhatshouldiwear, and @fashionlush. Delaney is one of my favorites because she has the coolest and best everyday style. I don’t think there is one thing she puts on that I wouldn’t wear. It’s all so effortless and cohesive, but still on trend.
My second favorite would be Allison Kelly aka @butwhatshouldiwear. Her style is also super cohesive. She takes very simple neutral pieces and creates the best outfits that won’t break the bank either.
Lastly is Erica Stolman (@fashonlush). I am obsessed with her fashion AND home style. She has super unique style and is true to herself. She also wears a lot of pastels, something I feel like a lot of influencers stay away from. I mean, when you look at her style the first thing that comes to mind is “aesthetic”.

I would describe my own personal style as edgy and unique. I like staying on top of what is trendy at the time, but at the end of the day I wear what I want and what makes me feel good.
Q: What was the best way for you to gain your following and how do you keep them engaged with your content?
I don’t know if there was really a particular way I gained followers. Some small things that help are tagging locations, using relevant hashtags, tagging brands, getting reposted by others, and picking a specific niche. I try to keep my followers engaged by giving them what they come to my specific page for, fashion. I always pay attention to what gets the most engagement as well and tailor what I post around that.
